3-legged mixed breed dog found today (Tuesday, January 24, 2012) in Read Mountain area of Roanoke, VA 24019. Looks like a Boxer-Lab-Sheppard mix wearing a blue collar, but no tag. I took him to a local vet to be scanned but he didn't have a microchip. Vet estimates him to be young (1-2 years) and weighs about 50 pounds. He is very friendly, takes command, and obviously well cared for; however, he is NOT neutered. We have our own small dog, so unfortunately we're not in a position to foster dog. After a day long neighborhood search and phone calls to local shelters and rescue groups, I had no other safe option except to contact Roanoke Regional Animal Control. A friendly officer picked the dog up this evening around 7:30pm. I'm sure his owner misses him terribly. Please spread the word to help reunite this sweet boy with his family. I want to thank Angels of Assisi for helping out a fellow rescuer today by donating the office visit. Lou the Xoloitzcuintli came in for a micro chip and heartworm medication, he is now ready for adoption through Xolo Rescue League www.petfinder.com/shelters/xolorescueleague.html We have volunteers all across North America helping hairless dogs and mixes there of most of which are smaller dogs. I adopted Riley, a extra sweet hound mix over a month ago and it has just flown by. She ,loved hiking with me and as long as she gets at least an hour of walking and some fetch time every day she is so well behaved. She's completely house broken-no accidents yet and loves her big roomy crate. She's laying in it now in fact. I am so happy to have adopted her and I hope her space at Angels can be taken by another awesome, amazing and totally deserving dog like her. You guys rock! I love the angels,i am just starting my journey with them.I hope to add to my family not just for me...I have a mini-pin/jack russell who has separation anxiety and when i leave he cries and howls/barks.They say giving him some company might make him better...if he is with his baby sitter he is good as gold. I am worried about the stress that his anxiety put on him. I hope to find a good match for him with there help.. The angels are great....
