WHAT IS DOWNTOWN DOGS?
Downtown Dogs encourages people to take dogs available for adoption at Angels of Assisi on outings and field trips in the community. Common Downtown Dog outings can include a hike, a trip downtown, a lazy day at the park, a visit to your workplace, or even a nice meal at a pet-friendly restaurant. These outings help shelter dogs manage kennel stress, burn off energy, and get more exposure in their communities.
Downtown Dogs only requires minimal commitments for participants. This encourages members of the public, who normally wouldn’t have time to volunteer, to engage with their local shelter and advocate for the animals. It’s a perfect opportunity for individuals and families.
If interested, stop by the Adoption Center any day after 10 am. You can either complete the Downtown Dogs Agreement Form ahead of time or fill out a paper copy when you arrive. Dogs can go on a walk around town or a day-long adventure; just let our Adoption Coordinators know your plans so they can match you with the right dog for your adventure. All supplies for a day out will be provided in a backpack, including a water bowl, treats, leash, collar, harness, poop bags, and toys. All dogs must be returned to the Adoption Center by 5:30 pm for dinner. An alternate time can be arranged with the Adoption Coordinators.
