PUPPY UPDATE We were able to send Clover and Crois

PUPPY UPDATE
We were able to send Clover and Croissant home with one of our staff, but we still urgently need a foster for them. Croissant can be fed with help from Clover or via bottle. We’ve also found Clover to be quite a cuddle bug. As Croissant grows, Clover will be able to take care of the heavy lifting. Eventually, the #foster parent would need to give the puppy baths and start weaning her to #puppy food. URGENT! Plus an UPDATE!
Croissant is doing very well so far! Her mom, Clover is able to feed her, and Croissant is happy to be fed. She want’s to be on the move, and we’ve been enjoying the squeaks of a newborn puppy all day. But we need your help. We need a foster for mom and pup TODAY! All of our usual fosters are either at capacity or out of town. So if you’ve ever thought of becoming a foster, today would be a great time to start! Please consider taking Clover and Croissant, our Christmas miracle puppy into your home today. This morning a dog who had just come out of stray

This morning a dog who had just come out of stray hold came into our shelter with a surprise. She was pregnant. The #puppies had faint heartbeats, so our clinic staff performed an emergency C-section, and got to work trying to revive the 7 puppies. After some intense group effort, sadly 6 babies could not be saved. But one began to breathe, and eventually whimpered. We’ve named her Croissant, and she is currently wrapped up in blankets on a heating pad with an oxygen mask. We’re not sure if she will pull through yet, but if she does she may have several medical problems to overcome from going without breathing for too long. We will keep you updated on her progress. Remmi's List Highlight: Roro Roro may not hear the world as clearly as she used to, but her heart speaks volumes. She's a master at communicating with love, and her silence only enhances her charm. Ms. RoRo loves all people - adults, teens, AND children! As long as she can be the center of attention! This sweet girl is looking for a place where she can be the only pet of the house. She yearns to sunbathe in a big back yard and play fetch (AKA keep the ball away from the humans...). Roro faces severe allergies, but she's a true fighter. With allergy shots and a special diet, she's ready to conquer whatever challenges come her way. #RemmisList is a list of animals in our care who are in the biggest need of short-term foster homes. Studies show that giving a dog or cat a #shelterbreak for even a night or two significantly #reducesstress which helps to make them more adoptable in the long run. Remmi’s list is made up of our #dogsandcats here at the Angels of Assisi #shelter who most need some time out of the #kennels. These animals are either #senior, #longtermresidents, in need of medical care, in dire need of a #mentalhealthbreak from the shelter, or all of the above. Our staff will even provide training on medication administration for our #specialneeds animals. While the time in our shelter is temporary for all of its residents, Remmi’s list aims to highlight those who could use a #vacation the most. #GivingTuesday2023
Harmony Farm Sanctuary was established in 2003 with a mission of protecting #farmanimals from cruelty and providing shelter, care, and compassion to those in need. Over 200 animals ranging from #cows, #horses, #goats, #sheep, #chickens, #rabbits, and even former fighting #roosters call Harmony home. Because of the #farm, Angels of Assisi is available to assist #animalcontrol agencies with animal seizures, including cases of severe neglect and abandonment. Harmony Farm #Sanctuary provides programs for abused animals, victims of domestic violence, hospice, and other emergencies. One of the more recent emergency rescue stories belongs to Agnes the #calf. Agnes came to Angels of Assisi at just 3 days old. Her mother stepped on her and wasn’t caring for her properly. She could not stand and to make matters worse, she had a touch of pneumonia. While in the care of the #clinic staff, Agnes began her therapy, and got lots of love and attention. Now at 6 weeks old, she is living with a #foster and continuing her physical and laser therapy. Agnes is now able to walk and run with her #fosterpack, and her last goal of consistently being able to stand up on her own is right around the corner. Once she clears her final hurdle, she will be sent to live at Harmony Farm Sanctuary with other #farmanimals who have found their safe and #happyhome there. Lilly the two-legged goat will be sure to be the first to greet Agnes when she arrives. By offering #affordableprices, working with animal control on neglect cases, hosting a drive through #vaccination event, going out into the #community with the #mobileclinic, or bringing neighboring community animals from #familypets to #feralcats to the #clinic to be #spayed and #neutered with our transport program, the pet clinic staff makes sure they are helping to keep animals #safeandhealthy everywhere they can reach. The mission of the Angels of Assisi #adoptioncenter is to find homes for all of the #dogs, #cats, #rabbits, #guineapigs, #rats, #ferrets, etc. who come through our #shelter. Whether it’s setting up meet and greets for potential adopters, bringing #adoptableanimals out to local businesses and events for a little extra #community exposure, partnering with trainers and other #animalwelfare organizations to bring each animal’s adoptability level up, working with animal control and local #shelters to give traumatized animals another chance at happiness, or working with #fosters to make sure special case animals can spend a little bit of time out of the shelter and get the care they need, the adoption center staff leaves no stone unturned in the pursuit of an animal’s #happilyeverafter. One of the more recent #happybeginning story is Beatrice. Bea came to the shelter extremely emaciated and covered in fleas. After lots of love and care from the clinic staff, the adoption staff needed to find Beatrice a place to live out her golden years as she’s had a difficult life during her 13 years. When Mark heard her story, he knew he wanted to care for Beatrice. On a post of Beatrice leaving to meet her new #fosterfamily, Mark commented, “No more cages, no more being alone at night, no more fear. Just lots of cuddles, treats and love. She’s home.“ We couldn’t have said it better. This is what the adoptions center staff wants and works for with all of their #shelteranimals. They want to find the right home and family for every one, and a comfortable stay while they are at Angels of Assisi. He's a sweet and tender soul, but the shelter environment has left him feeling very nervous. Today we got a visit from the ladies of @starcityp

Today we got a visit from the ladies of @starcitypunkcast. Over the weekend, they celebrated their 1 year anniversary of the #RoanokePodcast with a punk show where they held a raffle to raise money for our #shelter. They reached out to see what we needed, went shopping, and brought us quite a haul! Thank you for your #generosity, and here’s to another year of #podcasting!

A 1 year old dog with an almost 2.5lb chain around

A 1 year old dog with an almost 2.5lb chain around her neck was caught by our friend Kathy Baker today. The dog had been hanging around Roanoke Avenue SW since the middle of October. She was cold, terrified, and she had eluded many of the attempts to bring her to safety. @rcacp sent her over to Angels of Assisi to get tested for heartworms and lime disease, which came back negative. She also got the heavy chain off and received all of her vaccinations while she was here. For now, she is going back to RCACP to finish out her stray hold as she was found with no microchip. We hope to bring her back to our shelter so she can be adopted soon.
