The dogs are gearing up for the Adoption Event and The dogs are gearing up for the Adoption Event and Pup Run this evening with our friends at @biglickbrewingco and @fleetfeetnoke ! We can’t contain our excitement! Arche has left We can’t contain our excitement! Arche has left the building. This boy has been waiting for the perfect home to come, and it finally has. Arche hasn’t had an easy go at life. He is only three years old and was unfortunately not treated well for the first couple of years of his life. Because of this, he can be skeptical of new people. He also has a history of seizures that might stem from his prior trauma. His new mom has been earning his trust for the last couple of months, and today was finally his day to go home! Arche couldn’t contain his excitement either. He jumped right up to kiss her and hopped in the car to go to his new home. Best wishes to the new family!
Hulk truly is a hero! A dog came into our Communit Hulk truly is a hero! A dog came into our Community Pet Clinic in urgent need of a lifesaving blood transfusion yesterday. Hulk was the man for the job! Hulk did fabulous with the blood donation, and we are so proud of him for his lifesaving work! Afterward, he was showered with extra love and snacks, including his favorite, peanut butter. Way to go, Hulk! ❤️ Hulk is one of our adoptable dogs looking for a loving home to call his own. He’s a huge cuddle bug and loves everyone he meets! He seems to like other dogs but would do best in a home without cats or small dogs because he doesn’t understand his strength. If you want to add an incredible dog to your family, please contact our Adoption Team at adoptions@angelsfoassisi.org.
RESCUE! Today, we received three dogs needing extr RESCUE! Today, we received three dogs needing extra TLC. Our friends at the Regional Center for Animal Care & Protection and Roanoke Police Department - VA Animal Control have worked tirelessly to help them and their owners. The property still has over a dozen adult Belgian Malinois mixes needing placement, not including 22 puppies. We hope to find loving foster and adoptive homes as efficiently as possible in order to bring the rest of the dogs into our care. The owner cares very much about them, but it has become too much, and due to the owner's health, he cannot continue caring for them. These dogs have had limited to no veterinary care and will require significant medical care, including vaccinations, preventative care, spay/neuter, and dental care. Please consider contributing to our Biscuit Fund by clicking the blue button below to help with these dogs' medical care and rehabilitation. In addition, we are in URGENT need of foster homes that are comfortable working with timid dogs. The sooner we find foster homes, the more dogs we can help. These dogs have only ever known their home, and while they are friendly, they need time to decompress and adjust to a new environment. There are adult dogs in need of foster and nursing moms with puppies. Please email our adoption team at adoptions@angelsofassisi.org if you can foster or have questions! Stay tuned for more updates on this rescue.

On Wednesday, we partnered with Virginia-Maryland On Wednesday, we partnered with Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and The Street Dog Coalition to hold a mobile veterinary clinic in rural Southwest Virginia. This clinic aimed to help people with pets who were homeless or at risk of homelessness. Over 70 pets were helped at this clinic. One of whom was Monster. Monster’s parents were houseless a couple of years ago and were living by a creek. Monster approached them one day and continued to do so day after day. They started to earn his trust by feeding him treats, and before they knew it, he wouldn’t leave their side. His parents said it wasn’t the ideal time for them to get a pet, but sometimes they choose you. When they found housing, Monster came with them and has been with them ever since. Monster is so well loved, and it is heartwarming to see. He received a thorough exam, vaccinations, flea/tick prevention, dewormer, and a voucher for free neuter surgery. His parents were so appreciative that he could receive care, and we were so thankful we could help this wonderful family. #HelpisHere #RuralVeterinaryCare

We had a wonderful group of visitors from Pennsylv We had a wonderful group of visitors from Pennsylvania this morning. Gettysburg College is in the NCAA Women's DIII Lacrosse National Championship this weekend in Salem! The team spent the morning volunteering and walking dogs to give back and decompress before the Championship. They had looked up all of our adoptable animals ahead of time and were so happy to spend time with the dogs. Twelve adoptable dogs spent the morning around Downtown Roanoke with their new friends and had a blast! Thank you to Salem, VA Special Events for organizing, and good luck to Gettysburg College Women's Lacrosse this weekend! The staff and animals at Angels of Assisi will be rooting for you! We hope to see you again next year.
We just had three kittens brought to us for care. We just had three kittens brought to us for care. They were found by a good samaritan outside of a dumpster at a local restaurant. The finder was concerned about their health, so she brought them to us so we could help them. They are small, and our veterinary team estimated them to be about four weeks old. At first, they weren’t interested in food, but with some encouragement, they started eating on their own. Our veterinarian examined them and cleared them to go to a foster home. Tonight, they will go to a loving home to grow over the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more updates on these kittens!

Remember Barney? Barney came to us a little over a Remember Barney? Barney came to us a little over a year ago and was in very bad condition. He was extremely matted and covered in feces. You could feel his hip bones and ribs protruding, and it was heartbreaking to imagine how a dog could be in such rough shape. Barney’s new name is Seamus, and he has been in his loving home for just over a year. Seamus has been trained to be a courthouse facility dog who gets to help people who have experienced traumatic events. He is a testimony that healing is possible, and we are grateful he can help comfort victims in the courtroom. Last week, Seamus came in for vaccinations and a wellness exam, and our staff was so excited to see him happy and thriving!

Yesterday, a cat was brought in by a local woman. Yesterday, a cat was brought in by a local woman. She is very active with Trap-Neuter-Return of local feral cats, but this was a unique case. This boy had a piece of metal machinery stuck around his neck. It was so heavy we could tell it had been causing him some difficulty, and we couldn’t imagine how uncomfortable he must have been. Our medical team sedated him and quickly got to work. We were pleasantly surprised that once he was sedated, we could eventually maneuver the piece off him without cutting the metal. Once removed, we found matted hair inside, meaning it had been on his neck for a while. We are so thankful he is now safe and comfortable.

Remember the three cats who came in two weeks ago Remember the three cats who came in two weeks ago whose owner had passed away? We are seeing the fear leave their eyes, and we think they know they are safe now. Our team named them Handsome Boy, Beauty, and Envy. When we ran blood work, all of them had decreased liver function, which is common in cats without access to food. They are on a liver supplement and are improving each day. Envy and Beauty have each gained a pound, and Handsome Boy has already gained 2 pounds. Handsome Boy still has an upper respiratory infection and was started on a second round of antibiotics, but it is improving. Handsome Boy is more outgoing than his sisters and loves to cuddle and make biscuits. Envy and Beauty are still nervous but will allow handling and come to our staff for treats. They still have a way to go in their recovery, but they are getting stronger, and we are so thankful they are safe. Soon they will be ready for loving homes of their own. 💕
