Foster Program
It takes a very special person to become a Foster parent. Whether it’s a litter of two-week old kittens or a neglected hound dog who is nervous around people, many animals need extra love and attention so they can become ready for adoption.
If you are interested in fostering one of the pets in our care, please fill out our online foster application or contact eclaridge@angelsofassisi.org.
Fostering is an opportunity to care for an animal that’s not yet ready for adoption. It’s an alternative for animal lovers who can’t make a long-term commitment, but still want to help rescue animals.
Fostering is a truly rewarding experience.
Angels of Assisi provides all medical care at our Community Pet Clinic plus the basic needs of each foster care pet including food, bowls, crate, and more.
What is Foster Care?
Who is eligible to become foster parents?
All kinds of people! We match the perfect foster care pet to your individual needs. Whether you work or stay at home, have a small amount of time or want to make a full-time commitment, we have a pet that needs your help. Fostering lets you make a difference in an animal’s life. We are looking for caring, compassionate individuals, 21 or older, who live within 30 miles of our Roanoke, Virginia shelter. Is that you?
Before you bring a foster animal home, consult with your veterinarian to make sure your own pets are up-to-date on their vaccinations. You may wish to ask your veterinarian if your pets need any additional vaccinations.
Why is the foster program so important?
Angels of Assisi regularly rescues animals that would be euthanized due to a lack of space at other shelters that destroy pets for population control, or a special medical, or age-related issue. As a foster parent, you are helping an animal in need and you’re also providing the added space needed to bring another animal to the shelter— that’s saving another life!
The Itty Bitty Kitty Committee is Angels of Assisi’s kitten-focused foster program dedicated to some of the most vulnerable animals who come through our doors. Every year, hundreds of kittens arrive needing far more than just a safe place to land. Many are orphaned, sick, injured, or too young to eat on their own, requiring round-the-clock care, specialized feeding, medical support, and loving foster homes where they can grow strong enough for a future.
Through the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee, we’re able to say yes to these tiny, fragile lives and provide them with everything they need from intake to adoption day.
We are incredibly grateful to Magic City Sprinkler for serving as the presenting sponsor of the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee and helping ensure our foster families and kittens have the supplies, support, and medical care they need to thrive.
We also invite our community to support this lifesaving work through our monthly giving program benefiting the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee. Monthly donations help us stay ready for the next kitten who needs us and allow us to continue providing critical care to hundreds of vulnerable kittens each year.
